Biography

Karen Tichenor Willitts Esq. is a divorce and family law attorney with Cipriano Law Offices, PC.

With over 20 years of experience practicing law entirely in the field of matrimonial and family law, Ms. Willitts is a highly respected specialist in all aspects of family law, including divorce, child support, child custody, alimony, equitable distribution, complex asset valuation, adoptions, domestic violence, juvenile delinquency issues and all other family law matters.

Ms. Willitts provides her clients with creative and compassionate representation that recognizes her clients’ unique needs and goals. She is strategic in finding the best legal solutions for safeguarding her clients’ rights and their children, and will seek to resolve her clients’ matters through low conflict methods, such as mediation, whenever possible. 

Ms. Willitts also recognizes that desired outcomes may not always be attainable without court action. When called upon to go before the courts, she is prepared to advocate zealously on her client’s behalf. Drawing upon the strength of her background in complex matrimonial matters and litigation, Ms. Willitts has built a reputation for guiding her clients through highly contested divorce and family matters with great care and seamless precision, from initial filings through to case conclusion.

A child of an acrimonious divorce herself, Ms. Willitts is sensitive to the concerns and worries of divorcing parents about the needs and well-being of their children. Her goal is to resolve the various problems for her clients arising out of a divorce, including high conflict and emotional situations, in such a way as to allow her clients to move forward in their lives with peace of mind. 

Prior to her law career, Ms. Willitts worked as a financial analyst at the investment bank of Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York. She is taps into her finance background when her clients’ legal matters include complex asset valuations and other issues related to dividing financial investments.

Ms. Willitts earned her Juris Doctor from Rutgers Law School-Newark and served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Amy Piro Chambers, P.J.S.C. in the Civil Division in Middlesex County. She graduated with High Honors from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics.

Ms. Willitts has served as a contributing writer and editor on The Yudes Family Law Citator, published each year by the New Jersey Institute of Legal Education.

Ms. Willitts is admitted to the New Jersey Bar and the New Jersey District Court Bar. 

Ms. Willitts resides in Middlesex County and enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons and a menagerie of pets, and she is particularly fond of dachshunds.
