New Jersey residents may benefit from a prenup during divorce

On Behalf of | Oct 2, 2015 | Divorce

When individuals go through divorce, there may be several aspects that could lead to conflict. Property distribution is often a point of contention during divorce proceedings, but if New Jersey residents create a prenuptial agreement, they may be able to avoid some of the tension surrounding those proceedings. In many cases, individuals with considerable wealth or celebrities may create such agreements, but they could be beneficial for individuals of any income level.

It was recently reported that actress Kaley Cuoco and her husband Ryan Sweeting are getting a divorce. The pair was married for 20 months before Cuoco filed for divorce due to irreconcilable differences. There was no more information surrounding the cause of the divorce released in the report, though a representative for Cuoco stated that the decision was mutual.

It was stated that the couple had signed a prenuptial agreement two months before they tied the knot. As a result, that document will determine how their assets will be divided. The report also stated that the agreement detailed information regarding Cuoco making alimony payments to Sweeting, who is a professional tennis player.

This case could be a valuable example of how prenuptial agreements could prove helpful during divorce proceedings. If New Jersey residents are considering marriage, they may wish to also create a prenup. Various information can be addressed in these agreements, and information on creating the terms of the agreement may help parties better understand the process. Discussing the agreement creation with their legal counsel may also help parties ensure that the terms will still be acceptable in the future.
