Non-biological father fighting for child custody of infant

A man in another state had been eagerly awaiting the birth of his child. However, during what should have been a very happy time for him, his wife gave him devastating news -- she informed him that he was not the baby's biological father. Situations like this have occurred in New Jersey, where child custody battles ensue involving estrange parents or parents whose paternity is questioned.

The non-biological father also happens to be a member of the U.S. military who is currently stationed abroad. He and his wife are estranged. She has been charged with conspiracy to commit fraud because after giving birth to the child, she reportedly told her estranged husband's sister the baby had died.

In reality, she and another couple allegedly conspired to forge a signature on the infant's birth certificate. She then gave the baby to the couple, who were subsequently pulled over by police for driving over the posted speed limit. The baby was in the car at the time.

The couple admitted they were not the child's parents. They are now serving probation for their part in the scheme. The soldier took a DNA test that confirmed he is not the child's biological dad; however, he himself is adopted and says he would like to be able to do for the child what his own adoptive father did for him. He said he believes that it is in the child's best interest to allow him to raise the boy as his own. There may be people in New Jersey facing similar child custody problems involving complicated marital problems, questions of paternity or other issues, in which case reaching out for legal support would be a logical step to take to try to rectify their situations.
