There is no set time or age that a New Jersey resident might consider divorce. Parties of any age and who have been married for any length of time could find themselves assessing their relationships and considering that they may be happier out of the marriage. It was recently reported that more older individuals are considering divorce than in previous decades.
One possible reason that more older individuals are divorcing is that women are more empowered to take their own action. This could account for why 60 percent of divorces in individuals over the age of 40 were initiated by women. These parties may no longer feel as if they have to remain stuck in a relationship in which they are unhappy, because they have the ability to make their own choices and provide for themselves.
Children could also play a role in why many older individuals are seeking to end their marriages. By the time people are in their 50s or 60s, their children are often adults themselves. Therefore, parents may no longer feel as if they need to remain married for the sake of the children. Furthermore, some individuals may feel that they are setting an example of being able to overcome the fear of the unknown and live for love, even if that means going through divorce proceedings.
The decision to divorce is one that New Jersey residents must make on an individual basis. No two cases are the same, and therefore, parties will likely want to determine what steps may be best for them. If individuals would like to move forward with divorce proceedings, they may find information on the various processes and options helpful as they make their decisions.
