Court to rule on request for child support modification

On Behalf of | Aug 29, 2018 | Child Support

Most New Jersey parents who have signed custody, visitation or support agreements understand that both parents must comply with a settlement agreement that is then approved in court and included in a judgment of divorce. Otherwise, they risk being held in contempt. Some people wind up in jail for failure to pay child support.

Jail is the likely the last place rap star Gucci Mane wants to go since he just got out not long ago. However, his ex has reportedly asked the court to order a payment increase for the support Mane provides for their son. He currently pays $2,000 per month and the child’s mother has asked that those payments increase to $20,000 per month.

Like all judges, the one overseeing this case will no doubt take many factors into consideration before making a ruling. Each parent’s income is typically a critical factor in such decisions. In this particular case, Mane’s ex says she cannot afford to pay for child care for her son, so is unable to work or go to school as she would like to do.

Mane, on the other hand, has reportedly enjoyed a substantial increase in income since being released from jail. He is also said to have recently paid for his wedding to his long-time girlfriend, which supposedly cost more than $1 million. He has apparently not yet responded to the request for child support modification, and it remains to be seen what the court’s decision will be. New Jersey parents facing similar issues can request support from experienced family law attorneys.
