Jolie ordered to allow Pitt more parenting time

Many New Jersey readers are aware that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have faced off, several times, in court regarding custody and visitation for their six children. In fact, since the former couple divorced, it seems they have been unsuccessful at every turn in trying to resolve their parenting time disputes. The two were recently back in court, which resulted in a new ruling that Jolie must allow Pitt to see and/or communicate with his children without restriction.

The judge further ordered Jolie to give each of her kids a cell phone so they can stay in close contact with their dad. She is not allowed to read the text messages that pass between them. This is not uncommon, as most judges find it in children's best interests to have ample time with both parents following divorce.

In Pitt's case, he may wind up having even more time with his kids, as the court has warned Jolie that not adhering to the existing court order may cause her to lose custody. For now, the terms of the court order have been explained to both parents, who are expected to honor the terms. Time will tell if these latest efforts to ease contention between the two former spouses will be successful.

Many New Jersey parents may relate to Pitt's and Jolie's situation. Parenting time is often a critical issue in divorce proceedings. There are no specific laws or standardized forms for executing a co-parenting agreement. Each case is unique and although the court typically takes state guidelines into consideration, a ruling is generally handed down based on the circumstances in each case and in the best interests of the children involved. Any parent in need of legal guidance regarding such matters may reach out to an experienced family attorney for support.
